The middle of a pandemic seemed like a good time to take a road trip across America. Why not break free from the “I-lands” of isolation in our 14 month lockdown?
In search of the “we”, I explored the state of our nation hoping to hear what people thought about the continued lockdowns, big-tech growth, sweeping revisionist government actions, and censored media and freedoms.
Maybe these queries sound extreme, but make no mistake – these are extreme times. Over several weeks and 12 states, people who were friendly and welcoming. Like me, they wanted to help resilient businesses struggling to survive. But what struck me most, was one common and uniting thread:
People cared deeply and genuinely about each other. Whether masked or unmasked, black or white, afraid or angry – most were undecided about the future but each showed compassion towards others, loved their country and clung to hope.
More reflections to follow over the coming weeks, but this week is all about the incomparable Margaret Ghielmetti! Tune into our podcast this Thursday, as we share Margaret’s timely episode about understanding self and overcoming fears and challenges in her book, Brave(ish): A Memoir of a Recovering Perfectionist. Congrats to Margaret on the success of Brave(ish), a Finalist for the Gilda Award. This Story Circle Network Award is given to fresh voices for their honesty and authenticity, in celebration of the late comedian, Gilda Radner.
Have a great week and don’t forget this Thursday is also Earth Day. We hope you will support TreesCO2, the nonprofit environmental organization founded by Kaitlyn and Lauren Grierson. Featured in our WS ENGINES issue, this generation of amazing leaders has launched a special GoFundMe initiative for the Swan River First Nations Reserve in Alberta.
