If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same…
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it. (R. Kipling)
Tired of divisive anger, economic disparity, and polarizing politics? Goodbye 2020. WomanScape greets 2021 with a slew of new website stories as well as our digital and print volume #7, aptly called “WHAT IF?”
This next three months are focused on dispelling the incessant negativity and media-driven focus on devastation and fear. Each week, we will share one new story that prompts you to consider, reimagine or harness progress from all the “What ifs” of our world. We are, like changemakers of the past and present, a light for progress and possibility.
The WHAT IF theme is inspired by Nobel Prize winner Rudyard Kipling’s poem, “If”. As one of the greatest 20th century writers, you may know him for the Jungle Book or The Man Who Would Be King. But his moving poem assures us that the ultimate triumph of life is about spirit and perseverance.
We know you’ll enjoy our wide range of story subjects from the literary genius of Mary Shelley – who dared to write Frankenstein – to the life lessons of Dame Zaha Hadid, who colored outside of the lines for women with her trailblazing creativity as a star-architect. Whether you travel to the Faroe Islands for a Michelin Star meal or enjoy star interviews with women leading change, you’ll see how people are bringing change to a world in need.
In the worlds of Maya Angelou rise up. Find happiness and peace with stories that offer essential building blocks for strength of character and reimagined freedom and dreams. We will triumph, no matter, in spite of, and because of “What If.”
Happy New Year and see you this week on WomanScape as we kick off this week with a movie review around the powerful cultural impact of The Queen’s Gambit Netflix series.
Reimagining a better world, one story at a time,
