“I hear those voices that will not be drowned.”

British artist, Maggie Hambling (1945-)

Maggi’s work speaks to the story of Tracy Edwards, a courageous sailor who commanded a team of all-women sailors and found her voice while racing a sailboat around the world.

In the documentary movie, Maiden, Tracy discovers her voice and passion when she decided to compete in the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1973/74. As we celebrate film and our CINEMATICS magazine all month long on WomanScape, movies like Maiden help to amplify the work of artists whose stories change the way we see each other and the world.

Visit WomanScape this coming Wednesday to read more about Tracy Edwards’ adventures in the film, Maiden.
