There’s nothing like the world’s steepest 5,495 feet granite face to take your breath away!

Mount Thor is the longest vertical drop on earth and just one of the spectacular natural wonders our Baffin team discovered in the Arctic.

So get ready to hear some of the amazing stories and people of this beautiful true north.  While I’ve taken a few much-needed days to recover as well as to reflect on one of the greatest life-changing experiences of my life, know we’ll start sharing daily vignettes over the coming days and weeks.

During this epic trip, my fingers and toes succumbed to frost-nip from the extremely cold despite warm Baffin gloves and a sophisticated sock-layering system.  The damp air and long hours trekking outside and sleeping in tents left a residual numbness and swelling that should disappear by the end of the week.  At best, it’s been an interesting challenge to type with my Chewbacca fingers!

On the bright side, my bright red, peeling nose is healing quickly.  Layers of sunscreen and breathable face masks wilted under the powerful and persistent sun and wind that swept across icy lakes and the vast snowy wilderness.

As we prepare our stories, here are three take-away thoughts.  We must reconnect with our natural world and we need to do it now and in more meaningful ways.  The absolute majesty of the Arctic is intoxicating and we’re hoping our reservoir of photos and videos will help immerse you in its landscape and people.

Second, I am overflowing with gratitude each new day: for my family and friends, the people who share our WomanScape spirit and those who make this world a better place.  The effort it took for our Baffin group to eat, sleep, and survive in the Arctic taught me to see words like fortunate, courageous and admirable, differently.  We spend far too much time on things that don’t matter.

And finally, home is a relative word.  Our shared experiences and symbiotic relationship to each other is inextricably linked to peacekeepers and Indigenous peoples who are struggling to keep their culture alive.  We determine whether hope lives or destruction reigns.

Inviting you all to wonder, wander and enjoy,
