I’m headed to the Arctic in one week.  It’s hard to imagine months of training behind me and the exciting but a daunting 100 km snowshoe trek ahead of me.

When I leave April 1st, I’ll be counting on my spiritual fortitude!

This WS week of stories is particularly fitting as we focus on exploring the spirit and the soul.  Naturally, this is a complicated topic steeped in history, beliefs and many religious considerations.

The popularity of Morgan Freeman’s The Story of God, a National Geographic series, illustrates this point.  It’s the third season and airs in 172 countries in 43 languages.  Freeman travels the world in search of different spiritual beliefs and discusses our human understanding of why we exist.

Week Ahead

On WomanScape week, we explore two fascinating women.  The Scottish missionary Mary Slessor devoted her life to the people of Nigeria, adopting children and becoming one of the people.  Her spiritual commitment was larger than life and not unlike our modern-day history-maker, Jillian Maas Backman.

Jillian shares her thoughts with WS as a guest writer and award-winning radio personality.  She offers expert understanding around the spiritual frontiers related to our intuitive self.  Week’s end is a discussion of the spiritual circles that women build to support each other in our desire to understand and build a life around these pivotal questions.
